<p>Quality Enhancement Cell of Khyber Medical University (KMU) has organized a one day workshop on Self-Assessment Report Writing for constituent institutes of KMU on June 8, 2021. In this workshop, Program Team members of various academics programs of IBMS, IPDM, IPH&SS, IPM&R and INS participated. Facilitator of the workshop was Syeda Asiyah Bukhari, Director QEC, KMU. The Closing Ceremony was held in the committee room of IBMS KMU. In closing ceremony the Vice Chancellor KMU appreciated the role of Ms. Asiyah Bukhari and QEC team to enable the participants for writing SAR of their programs and understanding on Self-Assessment Process. In the closing ceremony certificates were awarded to participants of the workshop by Vice Chancellor, and Director QEC. Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq further appreciated the participation of Program Team members in the workshop and emphasized to follow the quality criteria set Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.</p>

<p>QEC KMU arranged a seminar on Online Teacher Evaluation and Turnitin usage. Ms. Asiyah Bukhari, Director QEC shared the inaugural remarks and purpose of the seminar. Mr. Sahir Atiq, Deputy Director QEC shared a detailed presentation and discussed practical steps for using the KMU Online faculty and students portal after facing difficulty by some of the faculty members of KMU. In the seminar, issues of the students were also shared while evaluating their teachers in every semester. Later on, faculty was guided on the use of Turnitin after receiving complaints from some students. The seminar was attended physically by focal persons of QEC and faculty members at Peshawar while faculty outside Peshawar attended through Zoon online. All the faculty appreciated the role of QEC in guiding the faculty and bringing up the positive name of KMU nationally and internationally.</p>

<p>Pakistan Network of Quality Assurance in Higher Education (PNQAHE) organized its third International Conference in Province of Sindh hosted by Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur on March 8-10, 2022. PNQAHE is the network bring into its existence by the tireless efforts of QEC of Khyber Medical University headed by Syeda Asiyah Bukhari under the supervision of Vice Chancellor Khyber Medical University for provision of platform to National and international QA professionals. Pre-Conference workshops were conducted by the International delegates joined from Georgia, Romania, Turkey and Bahrain. In this workshop and conference delegates from Universities of Pakistan with the representation from all the provinces including more than 50 universities. Distinguished guests from Higher Education Commission and accreditation councils also attended the event. . International Conference held on March 9-10. In the inaugural ceremony Chief Guest of the event was Professor Dr. Azam Ali Khwaja pioneer managing Director of quality Assurance Agency of Higher Education, Pakistan. Guest of Honor was the Vice Chancellor Vice Chancellor Shahid Benazir Bhutto University Nawbshah, Prof. Dr. Amanat Ali Jalibani. Apart from this more than 60 research papers were presented by the presenters of HEIs. During the event Annual General Meeting of PNQAHE also held with the members of PNQAHE where Ms. Asiyah Bukhari General Secretary of PNQAHE shared the brief report of activities held during the past year 2019 to 2021 and upcoming planned activities for the year 2022.Host University arranged visit of historical places at Khairpur and cultural music of sofiezam of Sindh. In the closing ceremony of the conference held on March 10, 2022 the concluding remarks were shared by the President PNQAHE, international speakers, national and organizer. The chief guest of the closing ceremony was Mr. Muhammad Mureed Rahimoon</p> <p>Secretary, Universities and Boards, Government of Sindh and Guest of honor was Prof Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, vice Chancellor NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi. CHIEF Guest of the event briefly highlight the role of their department to uplift the standards of quality education at secondary and Higher Education level and also shared the realization of stakeholder of Higher education for their responsibility at their part. <p>A three day workshop on Self Assessment Report Writing organized by Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar was held in Video Conference Room. The workshop was attended by representatives of medical, dental and nursing colleges / institutes of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Ms. Syeda Asiya Bukhari Director KMU-QEC Organized the workshop while Dr. Abdul Wahid Usmani of Jinnah Sindh Medical University Karachi was the moderator and speaker. He gave hands on training for writing SAR.</p> <p> <br>It is pertinent to mention here that writing a self-assessment report is an assessment of an educational program. The purpose of the program evaluation is to identify weak areas of the academic program and better plans for improvement. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has planned to set up quality assurance cells in the affiliated colleges of the universities. The Pakistan Medical Commission has also included quality assurance parameters in the evaluation of medical and dental programs in the evaluation proformas. <br>KMU is at the forefront of Quality Assurance in the country and is focusing on setting up QA and setting targets for a period of six months.</p>

<p>KMU Organizes Quality Awards Ceremony to Promote Quality Culture</p> <p>A ceremony to promote a culture of quality in the affiliated and constituent institutions of Khyber Medical University (KMU) was organized under the auspices of the KMU Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC). The event aimed to expand KMU’s quality enhancement measures, originally implemented in line with the Higher Education Commission's (HEC) Quality Assurance Agency guidelines, to its medical, dental, nursing, and allied health sciences institutions. </p> <p> <br> </p> <p>During the event, the QEC introduced and discussed quality assurance goals for 2023-24. Awards were distributed to KMU's constituent and affiliated institutions, administrative departments, best-performing teachers, and QEC staff in recognition of their outstanding achievements. </p> <p> <br> </p> <p>In the affiliated medical and dental colleges category, Women Medical College Abbottabad secured first place, Ayub Medical College Abbottabad second, and Jinnah Medical College Peshawar third. In the allied health sciences category, NCS Islamabad achieved the top position, followed by Tasleem College of Nursing Matta Swat in second and Premier College of Health and Management Sciences Peshawar in third. </p> <p> <br> </p> <p>Among KMU's constituent institutions, KMU Institute of Medical Sciences Kohat ranked first, while KMU Institute of Dental Sciences Kohat took second place. In the postgraduate institutions category, KMU Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences earned the top position. In the administrative sections, the VC Secretariat ranked first, the Treasurer’s Office second, and the Registrar’s Office third. <p>A monthly meeting with KMU QEC focal persons from constituent institutes was held on December 20, 2024, at the Vice Chancellor's Secretariat, KMU. The meeting, chaired by Dr. Syeda Asiyah Bukhari, Director QEC, focused on discussing targets and related issues for the year 2024-25. <p>KMU Holds Prestigious Quality Assurance Awards 2024–25 ceremony</p> <p> <br> </p> <p>The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar organized a grand ceremony to confer the Quality Assurance Awards 2024–25 upon its top-performing public and private medical, dental, nursing, and allied health colleges. The awards were based on the successful completion of annual quality assurance targets set by the university under the guidance of Higher Education Commission. Secretary Higher Education Department (HED) Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Capt (R) Kamran Afridi graced the event as the chief guest, while Vice Chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq delivered the inaugural address. Director QEC Dr. Syeda Asiyah Bukhari presented the annual quality performance report of various institutions in line with the Higher Education Commission’s quality indicators and evaluation standards.</p> <p>In his opening remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq stated that KMU has aligned its academic, research, and institutional quality standards with modern global requirements through a comprehensive quality assurance framework. He said that KMU provides a robust, transparent, and well-structured quality assurance model not only for its constituent institutes but also for all affiliated medical, dental, nursing, and allied health institutions. He said that KMU had set an exemplary standard in the province and that its clear, systematic, and transparent quality assurance mechanism had significantly enhanced the overall standard of medical and allied health education. He added that the Higher Education Department considers KMU’s model a guiding framework for other universities and will continue to extend full support to strengthen these systems further.</p> <p>The Secretary highlighted major initiatives of the provincial government in the higher education sector. He stated that the government had increased the annual higher education budget from Rs. 1.9 billion to Rs. 10 billion, which reflects unprecedented commitment to strengthening this vital sector. He shared that when he assumed office, several universities in the province were operating without permanent vice chancellors on an ad-hoc basis, but the appointment process had now been reduced from two years to just two months, resulting in improved governance and efficiency. He added that a dedicated Quality Assurance Cell had been established at HED to monitor and evaluate the performance of all higher education institutions in the province, which had brought noticeable improvements in academic and administrative standards.</p> <p>Secretary Afridi further announced that the provincial government would introduce a fully funded, one-year paid internship program for all new graduates from next year. He also praised the outstanding performance and services of Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, stating that despite his appointment as Executive Director HEC, the government had decided that he would continue his role as Vice Chancellor of KMU, a decision warmly welcomed by the attendees.</p> <p>At the conclusion of the ceremony, Quality Assurance Awards were presented to the top-performing public and private medical, dental, nursing, and allied health institutions. The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address from the Chair.</p> <p data-end="733" data-start="431"><strong>Dr. Syeda Asiyah </strong>Bukhari, Director QEC, presented the KMU QEC Activity Calendar for 2025–26, outlining quality assurance activities scheduled from October 2025 to June 2026. She also shared the annual QEC targets for constituent institutes, aligned with HEC’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) guidelines.</p> <p data-end="1071" data-start="735"><strong>Prof. Dr. Inayat Shah </strong>briefed the committee on the progress of the KMU Strategic Plan 2023–28, noting that follow-up meetings and quarterly reports had been completed.
